Brockenhurst College held their annual Sports Academy Presentation Evening on Thursday 9th May.
The evening celebrated the success of individuals and teams who have excelled throughout the season in the Sports Academy.
After starting the celebrations off with a hog roast and an ice cream parlour, the students took to their seats for the awards to begin. Each Academy produced their own DVD to show the achievements of this year’s students in football, rugby, netball, hockey, badminton, basketball and cricket.
Students were presented with awards in categories including Most Improved Player, Top Scorer, Player’s Player, Coaches Player, and Most Valuable Player. The evening finished with the presentation of the most prestigious award for Sporting Excellence, which this year recognised two students for their outstanding commitment and achievement in the Academy: Saskia Janzen and James Rapson.
Saskia, a second year student and member of the Hockey Academy, has been accepted to study Sports Science at Leeds University and successfully secured a place in the England’s U21 Hockey squad. James, who is also a second year student and a member of the Cricket Academy, represents Bashley (Rydal) Cricket Club in the Southern Premier League, the highest level of non-professional cricket in the region, and is also a member of the Dorset U21 minor County Squad.
Chloe Bennett, Head of Physical Education at Brock said: “It is such a wonderful evening that really gives both students and coaches an opportunity to celebrate the sporting successes across all Sports Academies, be this the recognition of individual commitment, or the overall achievement of teams in winning the various competitions we enter; including National Finals!”
