Talented Brockenhurst College student Ian Payne is aiming to compete in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and to be the world number one wheelchair tennis player. Ian currently has a world ranking of 26 in the Quad Division of wheelchair tennis and, at age 16, is competing with some of the most elite adults in the world.
This year, Ian moved to Lymington from Kent, bringing with him the Kent LTA Player of the Year Award 2013. Ian now trains with Sway tennis club, with his coach Craig McEwan, putting in 15 hours per week on top of studying for his Maths, Further Maths, Physics and German A levels at Brock. Ian is dedicated to his training and tournament schedule, and is determined to achieve his goals whilst remaining fully committed to his studies at the College.
Speaking of his achievements Ian said: “I am determined to achieve great things both on court with wheelchair tennis and off court with my studies. My aim is to compete at Rio in 2016 and to be world number one. The staff at Brock have been very supportive and are helping me to realise my dreams. When I leave College I intend to go on to university to study Engineering.”
